What is a Virtual Water Footprint?
A virtual water footprint measures the total amount of water used across the production of goods and services—including water used indirectly through supply chains. It accounts for the full lifecycle of a product, from agriculture and raw materials to manufacturing, processing, and transportation.
When we calculate virtual water footprints, we uncover where water is being used (often heavily) behind the scenes. That insight helps individuals and organisations make smarter decisions to reduce water waste, improve efficiency, and support more sustainable practices.
